Administrative Map & Regions — Overview

The United Kingdoms of Bamenda (UKB) is composed of seven traditional divisions, each rooted in history, culture, and distinct indigenous governance structures. These divisions are not just administrative zones—they represent a federation of kingdoms and chiefdoms that predate colonial impositions. The map is a visual embodiment of unity in diversity, designed to foster decentralization, cultural preservation, and responsive governance.


1. Mezam

  • Capital: Bamenda

  • Role: Administrative, commercial, and political nerve center of UKB.

  • Features: Hosts UKB’s central institutions, civil society, media, and economic innovation hubs.

  • Historical Significance: Seat of modern resistance movements and civic organization.


2. Momo

  • Capital: Mbengwi

  • Known For: Rich cultural heritage, high agricultural potential, and traditional governance.

  • Traditional Leadership: Strong network of fons and community councils.

  • Contribution: Supplies food, timber, and key cultural festivals.


3. Menchum

  • Capital: Wum

4. Boyo

5. Ngo-Ketunjia

  • Capital: Ndop

  • Ecological Zone: Fertile Ndop plains with strategic rice and vegetable production.

  • Development Focus: Rural infrastructure, agritech, and market access.

  • Governance: Local councils and revered fondoms drive grassroots engagement.


6. Bui (Kumbo)

  • Capital: Kumbo

  • Geography: Covers the Mambilla and Kambilla Plateaus, with temperate climate.

  • Strategic Role: Education, religious leadership, and agricultural extension.


7. Bamenda Metropolis

  • Function: Seat of UKB’s Provisional Government, courts, parliament, and media.

  • Diversity: Cosmopolitan mix of all UKB regions, NGOs, business, and diaspora returnees.


Decentralized Governance Model

  • Each division has:

    • A Regional Council

    • A House of Chiefs

    • Elected Municipal Representatives

    • Oversight by a Regional Governor selected by both traditional and civic consensus.

This structure ensures:
